I just wanted to add a caviat to this question. I'm working better now after cancer. B/C I was doing manual labor types of jobs but now am a Systems Analyst for a large corporation.

BIG difference in employment, but for the better!

So, thanks to Cancer, I'm not digging ditches anymore!!

That's a good point Mike!!!

I hope that in the long term, I will be doing a much better and more fulfilling job too! Gotta get that school done first. :-)

i returned to school 8 months after finishing treatment (8/97) and in 12/02 i received my bachelor in biology.  haven't done anything with it yet but am working on getting back into the work force.  in 9/98 i returned to the job i was working before my cancer dx.  due to chemo side effects i was back outta work in 5/99.  some of not returning to work has been due to several surgeries and recovery.  another part has been due to feeling like i was stuck between a rock and a hard place.  wanting to try something parttime but realization that i would lose some of my medical coverage which wasn't an option.  thankfully, there are new programs here in NYS so i have found a way to work without loosing my benefits.  YIPPY!!!!  now i just have to put it all together.

I'm really nervous to go back to work after being off for over a year. I still have 2 more tretments to go and will most likely go back very part time in May. That will be 2 months after the end of chemo. That is my plan anyway. If there is one thing I have learned from cancer, it's that your plans are not necessarily what will happen. I am anxious to get back my former life, but I will have a new normal now. It's going to be interesting.

You will probably be glad to go back some.  This will be an even newer normal if you will. 

FYI - you contracted cholera on the trail and I bought you some meds and cured you.  you didn't get eaten

Tara, that was so generous of you! I'm sure it would have been much more economical to eat her.

Knowing you, it won't take long for you to get back to your former life.  You are already so far ahead of the game.  You amaze me every day.  We are all so fortunate to know you.  You inspire everyone to be their best self's.  Only 2 more to go!!  Start the countdown!  Take care.
