I was in the elevator at M.D.Anderson the other day when a pretty lady dressed in a beautiful silk suit stepped in beside me.  I was admiring her beautiful clothing and her chic choice of accessories and found myself staring, so i complimented her by saying," I absolutely LOVE your outfit!"  She smiled at me seeming surprised and told me that she likes to dress comfortably on x-ray days.  That's when I realized that she too was a PATIENT!  She looked so great that it didn't occur to me that she could be a cancer patient.  I'll tell you that from there we continued to chat for at least another 30-40 minutes.  Turns out she was a lung cancer patient who was in because she was having hip pain and was concerned about metastasis.  We had a wonderful conversation.  She asked about me and I told her about my osteosarcoma and she was shocked to learn that I had an extensive implant in my leg especially because I was wearing heels! Wink  By the end of our conversation she told me that it must have been one of God's angel's that put her in the elevator with me for when she entered it she'd been feeling rather sad as it'd been a rough day for her with worrying about metastasis and her elderly father dying in hospice care.  She said that our conversation gave her hope and renewed strenghth to keep on going.  I was so touched by this lady.  For her to say such kind words to me.  I most certainly didn't think that anything I'd said was so impacting but whatever it was, it was for the good apparantly!  So my point is, you see, that sometimes we think something nice about someone and don't say anything in fear of sounding corny or sappy...but that kind thought can mean so much more than we imagine to someone!
