Everyone around the world is invited to participate in this very special event. With a donation of any amount to the Liddy Shriver Sarcoma Initiative, you can order a luminary to light each evening of International Sarcoma Awareness Week. It will be delivered to your home by David and Amy Dearinger of Independence, Kentucky.

This will be the second year the Dearinger’s have hosted such an event. In 2008 this event not only raised $1,440.00 for research funding, but it also brought much needed awareness to this underfunded and extremely rare, aggressive cancer. The luminaries are lit in memory of those we have lost to sarcoma, and in honor of those battling this horrific cancer, as well as their caregivers.

If you would like to participate in this event, simply email the Dearingers with your request. Dave and Amy will  gladly send each member of your family a luminary to illuminate each evening of this very special week. All they ask is that you make a donation direct to The Liddy Shriver Sarcoma Initiative. Every cent counts and there isn’t any donation too small or too large.

Ha-ha! Nice joke! It was $50.00, not $50,000.

I wouldn't say that it was fun: it was a meeting of people who share the same pain. And this is what makes gatherings like this important - you can talk about your pain freely, knowing that nobody will freak out or feel uncomfortable, give you "the look of pity", or insincerely express his/her understanding/compassion. Here you can have one look at a person and you don't need any words: you know where is he/she right now because you've been there already or might get there in no time.

Did you notice how many sad and very sad faces out there? Majority of them are caregivers or family members. I saw so much love and affection but those were love and affection at the brink of despair tinted with that horrible fear that you may loose the person you love...

Yes, the luminary was beautiful. And the good thing was that we had more yellow bags than white bags (yellow are for the fighters, white are for the angels)! Unfortunately, me and Deborah didn't realize that it was our chance to light yellow bags for our ABC friends (I love yellow!). But we were lighting yellow bags for all of you in our hearts.

Love,
Larisa

WOW Larisa that was beautiful!  I am glad to see more yellow bags than white but I hate that there has to be white!  Was that the first time that you had met others from your town?  HUGS

Yes, it was the first time. I knew Deborah and Kelly (virtually), but it was our first real person to person meeting. And it was great to meet them!
